How we fulfill our mission

Manos Amigas KC is a core group of volunteers in Anapra/Poleo and Kansas City listening to the needs of the community and gathering resources and support.

• Sponsoring education for students from primary through college.
• Building life-long relationships between sponsors and students.
• Improving physical health through education and emergency medical assistance.
• Supporting an annual Vacation Bible School.
• Encouraging individual growth and a strong community through service opportunities for children and adults.
• Honoring the elderly by meeting basic needs and providing companionship.
• Learning and educating others about the realities of life at the US/Mexico border.
• Providing a place to build community

    EDUCATION SPONSORSHIP

Public education is not free in Mexico. In the early 1990’s when we started our sponsorship program, many families in Anapra faced the difficult decision of providing food for their children or paying the fees to send them to school.

    VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Vacation Bible School was the first request from the core team in Anapra. During the summer, parents are working and children are left at home in the heat with nothing to do and sometimes nothing to eat. VBS provides an activity and a healthy snack.

    HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAM

Manos Amigas provides medical assistance to members of the Anapra community. This assistance covers prescription costs, doctor visits and travel to hospitals and clinics.

    ELDERLY SUPPORT

The majority of those needing our help are older women; therefore, we call this arm of our program “Adopt an Abuela” (abuela is Spanish for grandma). Many of the abuelas are widows with little to no family and no source of income.

    For a better tomorrow

There are many hours of work needed to support Manos Amigas. Some volunteers choose to travel to Anapra to work and visit with the families we serve. Others help with administrative tasks, collecting school supplies, translating letters, planning VBS crafts, and numerous other tasks.

If you are willing to help in any way, we will find something for you to do!
